Homemade dog and puppy treats provide a cost effective and natural alternative to mass produced, chemical filled, non-kosher purchased brands.

This dog biscuit recipe is perfect for all types of dogs and puppies, big or small. They make perfect treats for daily use or can be made for special occasions. Treats can be made large or small and in any shape desired, although they should be uniform in size when baking to prevent burning.

The versatility of this recipe is perfect for encouraging kids to cook in the kitchen. Children will enjoy making different shaped treats and cutting out fun shapes with cookie cutters. And the best part? It’s Super Simple and Kosher Too!

Super Simple Kosher Peanut Butter and Molasses Dog Biscuits

Ingredients Needed for Dog Biscuits:

  • 1 ½ cups Water
  • ½ cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 2 Tablespoons Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Tablespoon Pure Almond Extract
  • ½ cup Creamy or Crunchy Peanut Butter
  • ¼ cup Unsulfurated Blackstrap Molasses
  • 3 cups Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1 cup Unbleached White Four
  • 1 cup Medium Grind Cornmeal
  • 1 cup Regular Rolled Oats (not quick cooking)

Procedures for Preparing Dough:

  1. Mix together whole wheat flour, white flour, cornmeal and rolled oats in a bowl and set aside.
  2. Combine remaining ingredients in a large bowl. Mix on medium speed with an electric mixer or whisk until wet ingredients are well incorporated and smooth.
  3. Add the flour mixture and continue mixing on low speed until well mixed.
  4. Turn out onto a floured surface and continue to mix and knead by hand until the flour mixture is evenly distributed.
  5. Roll or pat a portion of the dough to ¼ inch thickness. Cover remaining dough when not in use to prevent it from drying out.
  6. Using a biscuit or cookie cutter, cut out desired shapes. Dip cutter into flour between use to prevent dough from sticking.
  7. Place cut out shapes onto ungreased baking sheet. Biscuits may be close together but should not be touching.
  8. Bake biscuits in a preheated 400 degree oven – 20 minutes for small biscuits, 30 minutes for large biscuits.
  9. Turn oven off after initial baking time. Turn biscuits over and leave in hot oven for an additional 20 to 30 minutes, depending on size of biscuits.
  10. Remove from oven and cool completely on wire rack before storing or serving. Store in a tightly covered container or jar. Unused dough may be refrigerated for up to a week and brought to room temperature before shaping.
